Arguments over ‘whether you should have to pay anything at all to Micro$oft to use its on-line service` aside, I found myself needing to buy and xBoX360 Live Gold membership (for the bf).
I decided there is no point getting 3 months for half the price of 12, and I didn’t fancy walking down to the BlockBuster’s Video to pay over the odds.
I didn’t want to wait for delivery either, its a pain in the ass and I don’t trust the post. I don’t want to have to pay more for the sake of a piece of cardboard.
So after a little googling I payed £29.99 for a 12+1 Gold subscription to be “instantly emailed to me” via InstantLiveCodes.com.

After first paying the money (via paypal or google-checkout) I got an email stating that

Instant Live Codes and PayPal are working together to make it safer than
ever to buy on InstantLiveCodes.com. One of the boldest steps is to identify
transactions that pose the greatest risk of fraud.

Your payment has been selected for review.

This is a security measure meant to protect you from problem transactions.

Please contact [email protected] to
acknowledge this email, instantlivecodes may ask for
additional information about this transaction.

And I kinda freaked out. Decided I must have been scammed and that I’d just lost £30.

I sent them an email back saying that I was very real and after trawling a couple of forums posted my disgust at beeing ripped off.

3 hours later I got my code (about 9pm at night) and it worked like a charm.

Thank You InstantLiveCodes very, very much. I recommend thee :)

Obviously this is the most controversial thing i’ve ever written about, and I’m going to close the comments.

To all of you who have used them with success, good on you. T o all of you who are having problems, I’m sorry, but I have nothing to do with them.

How long ago did you buy it, and have you been in contact with them yet?

I know some people have good experiences with instantlivecodes, but I think they’re dodgy. The e-mail Toker got is standard – these transactions aren’t reviewed at all – it’s because the codes aren’t sent instantly it gives them an excuse.
I’ve been waiting over 2 weeks for my codes after paying for them. I’ve e-mailed and am now going after paypal for the money back. AVOID instantlivecodes.com – there are lots of other sites doing the same thing more reputably for the same money or a pound / dollar more expensive – it’s worth it (http://www.jasper1675.com/newuk12gold.html
http://www.buygamingcodes.com/content/6-buy etc.) btw buylivecodes are the same company and should be avoided too. Dod-geeeeeee

    Hi all,

We usally send our codes out when it’s humanly possible, having said that you cannot expect an “instant” code from any xbox live seller anymore – though every xbox live seller claims to send it instantly, as fraud has hit an all time high, Paypal are clamping down hard on sellers who don’t take resonable steps to ensure payments are selected, viewed and in some cases refunded.

In a short period of time we have become the largest online shop to Xbox Live Codes in the UK, when we first started we did send out codes instantly but Paypal wasn’t having any of it, so we were required to send out “our security message”.

Guys, we have to work with Paypal otherwise our accounts will get closed.

Also as for my competitors who are spreading lies about us, you should spend more time concentrating with your own business than wasting time thinking up ways of trying to give http://www.instantlivecodes.com a bad name.

Again we are sorry if we have upset anyone who didnt receive an “instant” code, I hope the explanation about clears our position.

Well, I have to be honest -saying on your website that you send the codes out automatically when you’re admitting in person that you can’t due to PayPal’s regulations is somewhat annoying. Personally I would be happier if you stated this on your website -and if you were willing to link to something on PayPal’s site (or quote something from them) that explained their side of this matter, it would be appreciated.

That said and done, I received my live code within 4 hours of ordering it, and it was quite late at night. I paid quite a bit less than I would in the shop (and got 13 months rather than 12), and the code arrived far quicker than if I ordered it through official channels.

For the most part I’m extremely happy; I just feel that ordering from any “unknown” online is a bit risky, and getting that email from your “automated systems”, basically, just freaked me (and I guess some other people) out quite a bit.

All said and done, the big question is “Would I order from there again” -and the answer is yes, without a moments hesitation.

I placed an order yesterday with instantlivecodes expecting an instant code – apart from the automated security email still no code. Their web site clearly states that the codes are sent right away, although I am for all measures that tighten up on fraud, it’s unacceptable to advertise as “instant” when it is not. Even after reading the posts here and the reply from Instantlivecodes I still have a bad feeling about these guys…time will tell.

I got the code this afternoon, instantlivecodes said they sent it already but it must have gone to the wrong email address, err, I don’t believe that for a second. Would I order from them again – no!

  9. April 15th, 2009 at 23:08 | #9

William Walker – you failed to enter your home post code correctly during checkout and you wonder why your code wasn’t sent instantly.

I don’t think any seller would send a code to someone who didn’t know their own postcode.

You may have noticed alot of sellers coming and going, well that’s because of serious lapses in their security and Paypal are not having that.

We can’t change our company name but we can offer the best possible service around.

We are possibly the largest selling site of Xbox Codes in the UK so we must be doing something right.

Anyhow William, your code might have been stuck in spam or junk something we mention on our site.

    Thanks again

@sean: have you received anything yet?

    From the instantlivecodes FAQs section:

Why should I buy points from you?
Unlike other sites which will send your codes by mail or have you waiting around on a manually written email for up to 12 hours, InstantLiveCodes unique site means that you receive your points instantly. Like, right now.

While there may be a requirement to delay the payment, I haven’t seen any other site use such bare-faced lies.
Also from reading other comments it seems this guy went away for weeks in February without any mention on the site so people paid and didn’t get their codes for weeks.

Avoid avoid avoid – if you’re looking for a refund the only hope you’ll have is if Paypal side with you (as they did in my case) – you’ll get no correspondance from the site.

  12. April 24th, 2009 at 00:05 | #12

Mr wudyaquit – quit the lies, you have been exposed on so many forums as possibly being the owner of a “xbox live subscription site” – your only wasting your own time with your silly games, I know it can be difficult to swollow but I am the largest online subscription seller in the UK.

Now if thats a hard pill to swallow then i’m sorry you will just have to come to terms with that.

I too have just purchased a 12 month gold subscription and not received the code. I had the same security message sent to me, and have now sent two emails to technical support with no reply.

I understand that you can not be too careful concerning payment, but I could have walked to the shop and back by now!

Very frustrating and slightly concerned that Ive been scammed… wont get a code or my money back!

WHich forums was I “exposed” on? – I missed those. Post the link as I’d really like to see, ya lying piece of crap. Maybe it was this one, http://www.avforums.com/forums/xbox-live/926811-i-need-know-something-about-instantlivecodes-com-thanks-2.html where you had your mate post up insinuations??? Anyone wants to see a screenprint of the paypal transaction I’ll send it on if they send me a PM from that link.

Come to think of it, let me know what part of the above is lies, as most of it is copied and pasted from your own website.
YOu are correct though -I’d really love a piece of your empire – was going to get a job, but thought I’d go for the big time making pennies sending codes out to one-off customers.

I’m finished with this now anyhow, because you’re right, it is a waste of time – but just wanted to make sure you lost at least a couple of buyers so that you be a bit more honest next time ya scammer…

  17. May 17th, 2009 at 22:07 | #17

wudyaquit – Please quit the lies, you only need to google instant live codes and read the glooming feedback we receive from people across the world – you have sent your rant to many forums and have been exposed and then you just jump onto another forum, I believe your rant was deleted from the wholesale forums – correct? – Yes correct.

We totally acknowledge that sometimes codes are delayed but this is due to Paypal’s checks not our own.

Of the 35,000 customers, I guess we should expect the odd complaint.

    Many thanks.

I’ve had the same problem as most of you Its a disgraceful service they don’t reply to E-mails but I have contacted PayPal and they have said if I do not receive the within the next day they will a refund or a Subscription code out of instantlivecodes.com as the payment has been made and still no code….. I would rather purchase from game for an extra £10 I would strongly advise against purchasing from this site

What a joke of a company. I bought a code which took 4 days to arrive. When trying to redeem it says the code was “invalid”. I emailed Instantlivecodes….NO REPLY!

So i rang Microsoft… they informed me the code was redeemed 8 days BEFORE I EVEN BOUGHT IT!

    This place is a SCAM!

I’ve now been waiting for over a week for a code from “instant” codes.
It’s certainly misleading when even the name of the site is a lie.

I’m giving it another day then I’m going to dispute with paypal. I’m actually the owner of a couple of ebusinesses myself and deal with PayPal quite a lot, I have never heard of such an overhead for a verified PayPal account. Most places shipping physical items could have it delivered by now, let alone an electronic code…

    …………www.instantlivecodes.com >>>>> BEWARE………..

Do not use this company http://www.instantlivecodes.com
When we had a problem they sent me very rude emails calling me SILLY and a THIEF…
I purchased a 12 month code and paid using Paypal so Have Proof of purchase but they still called me a thief because I wanted my money back (which I did not get).
